He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie J. Oakes and Emma Lee Deatherage Oakes; his wife Joyce Young Oakes; and his children, Lenny Oakes and Sandy Long.
He is survived by: his son Steve Oakes (Michelle) of Stanford; his grandchildren, Devin Oakes, Brandy Oakes and Amber Denney; and his great grandchildren, Gavin Brown, Hadden Brown, Waylon Brown, Abigail Brown, Drayton Denney and Jaycee Denney.
