He was predeceased by: his parent Jestie Roberts Sims; his wife Teruko Sims; his parent Duvall, Sr. Sims; his siblings, Albert Sims, John Sims and Nancy Hoover; and his stepson Akinori Mizokawa.
He is survived by: his niece Regina Heath of Stanford; his brothers, Clinton Sims of Sims and Duval Sims, Jr. (Eleanor); and his stepson Yoshinori Mizokawa. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
