He was predeceased by: his parents, Davis Darnell and Ruth Thornberry Darnell; his wife Thelma Darnell; his son Charles Darnell; and his siblings, Earl Darnell, Jimmy Darnell, Allen Darnell, Clarence Darnell, Mike Darnell, Mildred Lincoln, Nadiene Teegarden, Jean Martin, Jessica B. Jones and Sarah Dunn.

He is survived by: his daughter Rejina Smith (Robert); his grandchildren, Brandon Smith (Brianna) and Katelyn Smith; his nephews, Chris Darnell (Chasity) and Dwayne Darnell (Vicki); and his siblings, Ronnie Darnell (Gayla) of Stamping Ground, Johny Darnell (Kathy) of Stamping Ground, Dickie Darnell (Darlene) of Stamping Ground, Gary Darnell (Darlene) of Stamping Ground, Frank Darnell of Stamping Ground and Donna Lee Milner of Cynthiana.
