We bid farewell to James Willard Shafer of Somerset, Kentucky, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on November 3, 2024 at the age of 91. James Willard touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, David Monroe Shafer and Liddie Strickland Shafer; his son James Monroe Shafer; and his siblings, Ovard William Shafer, Alvin Shafer, Mable Snodgrass and Belva Scarbro.
He is survived by: his wife Jeanette Shafer; his children, John Shafer (Tammy) of Somerset, Julie Judy (Edward), Janice Mann (Rodney) and Joanna Sonmor (Jon); and his stepchildren, Danny Arthur (Loretta) of Burnside, Kent Arthur, Christopher Arthur (Cheryl) of Bethelridge, Donna Keating (Paul), Tracy Dobbs of Somerset and Darla Tesch (Jeff). He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home (2110 KY-914, Somerset, KY 42503). A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
