He was predeceased by: his parents, Leland Merrick and Wanza Combest Merrick; and his siblings, Sarah Katherine Merrick-McGowan and Leland "Travis" Merrick. He is survived by: his wife Elaine Merrick of Brodhead; his children, Sarah E. Rogers (James) of Somerset and Dr. David E. Merrick II of North Augusta, SC; the mother of his children Janet Evans (Frank) of Somerset; his stepdaughter Amanda R. Jones (Beecher "Jesse") of Bronston; his grandchildren, Jami Elizabeth Rogers, Nathaniel "Beau" Rogers, Iverson Isaiah Thomas, Brett Owen Thomas and Kaylyn Elizabeth Jones; and his siblings, Danny Merrick (Marla) of Jonesborough, TN, John Merrick of Nancy, Sam Merrick of Nancy, Paul Merrick (Joy) of Somerset and Laura Jean Merrick of Somerset.
