He was predeceased by: his parents, Col. John Bealer Charlton and Doris Charlton (Guffin); his close friend Joe H. Boyd; his nephew Mark Charles Blackwell, Jr.; his aunt Elinorgrace Broshard (John); and his uncle Schuyler Guffin (Celia).
He is survived by: his sister Valerie Charlton Blackwell (Mark) of Kentucky; his niece Jessica Larson (Rob) of Massachusetts; and his nephews, John Blackwell (Erin) of Colorado and Paul Blackwell (Lisa) of Kentucky. He is also survived by seven grand nieces and nephews.
His ability to sing, compose music, and play piano was embraced by many church choirs and community organizations to which he generously donated his talent.
