He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Gilkey and Mary Gilkey (Auberry). He is survived by: his wife Sharon Gilkey; his sons, Ryan Gilkey, Timothy Gilkey (Laurie), Donald Gilkey Jr and Spencer Mattingly; and his brother Charles Gilkey (Diane).
