He was predeceased by: his parents, Maurice John and Helen Elizabeth Abbott (Adams); and his wife Billie Sue Abbott (Gearheart). He is survived by: his sons, Richard Keith Abbott of New Albany, David Ross Abbott (Sue) of Frankfort and Billy Ray Abbott (Penny) of Jackson County; his grandchildren, Johnathan Abbott, Martha Sowders (Ricky), Andrew Abbott (Maddie), Jennifer Shaw (William), Jessica Bentley and Shannon Lynn Martin (Brian); his great grandchildren, Kelsey Sowders, Isaiah Sowders, Benjamin Sowders, Malta Abbott, Korbin Shaw, Karis Shaw, Amara Clay Horn and Honorary; and his daughters, Mary Jane Abbott and Jamie Mays.
