He was predeceased by: his parents, McKinley Akers and Melissa "Little" Akers; and his siblings, James Akers, Allen Akers, Bruce Akers, Jack Akers, Clifford Akers, Bill Akers, Wanda "Dot" Justice Ruth Hooper and JoAnn "Sis" Cunningham.
He is survived by: his wife Mabeline Ray Akers; his daughters, Pamela Michelle Newsome, Kimberly Denise Thacker (Arnold "Bebo") and Lisa Renee Akers; his grandchildren, Zachary Akers, Dustin Hamilton, Samantha Thacker and Erica Tackett; his great grandchild Addilyn Thacker; and his siblings, Thelma Adams and Scotty Akers. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, countless friends.
