He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Rogers Given and Anna Elizabeth Riggle Given; his wife Julianne Hazelrigg Given; his daughter Ann Duty Payne; and his siblings, John William Given (Billy) and Mary Frances Williams.

He is survived by: his children, Charlene Tackett (Laddie) of Louisville, Mary Lyle Boone (John) of Lancaster, Ohio and James Walter Given of Sharpsburg; his son-in-law Thomas Payne of Paris; his grandchildren, Joe Tackett, Julie Tackett, Emily Given, Clark Given (Emily), Paul Davis Given (Emily), Katie Boone, J. Cawood Boone and Caroline Payne; and his great grandchildren, Lily, Tessa, Archer Tackett, Ella Tackett, Harper, Hadley Given, Alex and Andy Given.
