He was predeceased by: his parents, Effie Mae (Wilson) and Clate Smith, Sr.; and his siblings, Thelma Lee Springfield, Bobby Gene Smith, James E. Smith, Clate Smith, Jr. and Carl Smith.
He is survived by: his sisters, Mary Jo Hayes of Sebree, Wilma Smith of Sebree and Esther Springfield of Sebree. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
