He was predeceased by: his parents, James Herbert Carter and Vera Gregory Carter; and his brothers, James Hudson and Richard Hudson. He is survived by: his fiancée Linda Blankenship of Adolphus, KY; his sons, Curtis Carter of Adolphus, KY and Adam Carter of Gallatin, TN; his stepchildren, James Huntsman of Madison, TN and Sherry Blankenship of Hartsville, TN; his siblings, Billy Ross Carter (Linda) of Scottsville, KY, Sherry Reels (Tommy) of Adolphus, KY and Mary Miller of Ashland, KY; and his sisters-in-law, Norma Hudson of Rockfield, KY and Viola Hudson of Rockfield, KY. He is also survived by Several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
