He was predeceased by: his parents, Vern Kier and Martha Bartles Kier; his brother Larry Gene Kier; and his stepdaughter Anita Wetter. He is survived by: his wife Millie Wills Kier; his sons, Ricky Kier of Frenchburg, KY, Mike Kier (Stacy) of Owingsville, KY and James Kier of Salt Lick, KY; his stepchildren, Jennifer Maze of Mount Sterling, KY and Rick Coyle (Cindy) of Owingsville, KY; and his sister Verna Kier of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
