He was loved and cherished by many people including: his mother Carnelia Ramage of Salem; his children, Gary Wayne Cowen, Christopher Lynn Cowen, Donna Cowen, Crystal Vick and Stephanie Cowen; his siblings, Daniel Cowen, Jimmy Cowen, Kenn Cowen and Sandy Guess; his stepsiblings, Ronnie Ramage, Mike Ramage, Liz Henson and Diane Jones; his father Harry Neil Cowen; and his sister Pam Guill.
