He was predeceased by: his parents, Truman Payton and Eva Dean Payton; and his brother James Ray "Red" Payton. He is survived by: his wife Linda Axtell Payton; his sons, Steven Payton and Eric Payton (Jennifer); his grandsons, Zachary and Tomas; and his siblings, Otis Payton (Rita), Margaret "Sissy" Hickerson, Gary Don Payton (Doris), Charles "Cotton" Payton (Mary Ann) and Keith Payton (Rebecca).
