He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Lee and Mary Buczek Kernes. He is survived by: his wife Karen Shores Kernes; and his children, Robert Kernes (Geena) of Springdale, Arkansas and Giselle Conover (Paul) of Keller, Texas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
