He was predeceased by: his father Ray D. Bowling; his former wife Sophia Stivers; his siblings, Jim Bowling (BG) and Janet McLemore (Eugene); and his stepgrandson Clinton Weitkamp.

He is survived by: his brother Paul Bowling (Martha); his children, Suzanne Nichols (Pat Hynes), Dan Bowling (Nancy) of Nicholasville, KY, Gina Elliott (Mike) of Louisville, KY, Ralph Bowling (Sandy) of Louisville, KY and Jonathan Bowling (Claire Morgan); his stepsons, Darrell Weitkamp (Laura) of Richmond, KY and Donnie Weitkamp (LaDonna) of Richmond, KY.; his grandchildren, Daniel Bowling, Simon Bowling and Caroline Bowling; his stepgranddaughters, Chase Daniel (Jacob) and Grace Weitkamp of Birmingham, AL; and his stepgreat-grandsons, Xander and Ellis Daniel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to Berea College or Oneida Baptist Institute.
