He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Sowers and Stella Perkins Sowers; his wife Billie Sue Sowers; and his brothers, Gene Sowers, Julian "Bea" Sowers and Charles Sowers.

He is survived by: his son Robin Sowers; his caregiver Gina Lockhart (Tina Vance); his stepson Chris Lockhart; his niece Sharon McKinney; and his close friends, Phyllis Caudill, Glen Gover and Sadie.
