She was predeceased by: her parents, Herbert Edwards and Mary Dalton Edwards; her sister Janet Sowder; her husband Ermon Hays; and her children, Sheila Newman (James), Robert Hays and Mary Ellen Belcher (Matt).

She is survived by: her brother Donald Edwards (Eliza); her grandchildren, Felicia Cecil (Matt), Amber Phelps and Allison Adams; and her great grandchildren, Aubrey Reeves, Preston Cecil and Wesley Short.
