He was predeceased by: his parents, Austin Spears and Isabella "Happy" Spears. He is survived by: his wife Sharon of Richmond, Kentucky; his siblings, Danny Spears of Glasgow, Kentucky and Anna Herald of Indianapolis, Indiana; his daughter Jodie Spears; and his grandchildren, Paige Crouch, Piper Crouch of Lexington, Catherine Buercklin Farris of Conway, Arkansas and Joseph Buercklin of Little Rock. He is also survived by relatives and friends.
