He was predeceased by: his wife Shirley Elaine Williams Brown; his son James R. Brown, Jr.; his parents, Joseph Alphonso Brown and Marguerite Agnes Fletcher; his brother-in-law Bernie Brooks; and his son JB.
He is survived by: his children, Eric Brown (Maria) of Elizabethtown, KY, Robin Ayers of Bowling Green, KY and Jeffrey Brown of Houston, TX; his siblings, Elaine Brooks of Maryland and Joseph "Cowboy" Brown (Delcie) of Maryland; his grandchildren, Nicole (Eric), Natasha, Eric (Hannah), James, Cliffton, Tyrone, Joseph, Perry, Sara, Dontae, Lavell, Kasey and Lindsay; his nieces and nephews, Pam Brown, Terrance Brown, Michael Brown (Dawn), Karen Wilson (Kirk), Marvin Brooks (Phenne), Martin Brooks (Angie), Marlon Brooks and Valerie Williams; his children, Cecelia and Jeff Thompson; and his godchildren, Mike Brown, Kerry-Ann Wheatly and Roy Gabe. He is also survived by great-grandchildren and great nieces and nephews.
