He was predeceased by: his parents, Van Edward Mooney and Birdie Mae Mooney (Marabel); and his siblings, Diloris Mooney, Arsula Johnson (Sue), John Mooney and Robert E. Mooney (Tom Tom).

He is survived by: his daughter Patricia Esters (Dewayne); and his siblings, Celestine M Hutcherson Doris (Startis), Morrow, Iris Hopson (George), Willie Carol Mooney (Joanne) and Monte Chris Lindle. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins.
