He was predeceased by: his parents, Alexander Luther Smith and Myrtle Elizabeth Reed Smith; and his siblings, Buford Smith, Buddy Smith, Al Smith, Brian Smith, Bruce Smith, Mary Sue Locke, Gloria Irby and Marilyn Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Gale Smith; his daughter Kristie Wilson (Marshall); his grandchildren, Katherine Alexander Wilson and Wyatt Evan Wilson; and his sisters, Margie Grout, Joy Birch and Louise Kelly. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that monetary donations be made in David's honor to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
