He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse and Nellie Broughton Tharpe, Sr.. He is survived by: his significant other Elizabeth Ratchford; his children, Ruthie, Allenia and David; and his siblings, Mildred Underwood, Lucille Tharpe, Sylvia Tharpe and Duke Clayton Tharpe. He is also survived by 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
