He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie M. Mayes and Jane Wilmott Mayes; his son Chris Whitehouse; and his sister Libby Mayes. He is survived by: his wife Mary Lou; his children, Stephen Mayes (Megan) and Jennifer Bodner (Bryan); his grandchildren, Avery, Austin, Aniston Bodner, Gavin Whitehouse, Addie, Silas and Sutton Mayes; his brother Robby Mayes; his nephews, Michael and Matthew Mayes; and his grandchildren, Robby, Michael and Matthew Mayes.
