He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert M. Hardesty and Hazel Margaret Hardesty (Wathen); his wife Dorothy Hardesty (Greer); and his brothers, Bobby, Nickie and Richard Hardesty.
He is survived by: his children, Mary Jean Sipes (Jerry), Beverly Mattingly (Bobby), Judy Padgett (Jimmy), Gary Hardesty (Tonya), Larry Hardesty (Sherry) and Terry Hardesty; and his brother Cecil Hardesty (Nellie). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.
