He was predeceased by: his parents, J. Frank Ewalt and Louise Ewalt; and his siblings, Joe Ewalt, Jan Ewalt, Jane Gray and Ann "Cissy" Garrison.

He is survived by: his wife Dr. Kendra Barrows Ewalt; his daughter Kate (Cullen); his grandchildren, Rett, Millie and Adrienne "Dooner" Bailey of Chipley; his daughter Grace Ewalt of Paris; and his sister Joan Ewalt. He is also survived by nephew and several nieces.
