He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert "Bob" Shields and Delsie Jones Shields; and his brothers, Jimmy, Billy, John and Bobby Shields.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth McNabb Shields; his children, Danny Lewis Shields of Owingsville and Susan Charles (Dave) of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.; his grandchildren, Matthew Shields of Richmond, Erin Charles of Owingsville and Chris Charles of Mt. Sterling; his sister Nancy Shields of Lexington; and his sister-in-law Donna Shields of Owingsville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
