He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph F. Dougherty and Ruth Cook Dougherty; his son Mark Edward Dougherty; and his siblings, James, John, Howard (Richard Dougherty) and Evelyn Crockett (Judy Dougherty).

He is survived by: his niece Lisa Meadows; his great-nephew Benjamin Meadows; and his sisters-in-law, Rue Dougherty and Jane Dougherty. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Hill Baptist Church.
