She was predeceased by: her parents, Chester Smith and Lockett Beckham Smith; her son Vernon Ray Walker; and her brothers, W. T. and Clarence Smith.
She is survived by: her husband Glenn Whitaker; her son Gayle Walker (Tina); her grandchildren, Jackie Schaffer (P. J.) and Tierra Walker (Austin Brown); her great grandchildren, Allen Wayne and Isabella Marie Schaffer; and her siblings, Shirley Ballard (Johnny), Barb Purvis (Harold), Zelma Wilson (Donald), Thelma House (Vernon), Vickie Robey (Wayne), Janie Belle Collins (Mike), Chester Smith, Jr. (Maxine), Joyce Ann Barnes (Calvin) and Jack Smith (Brenda).
