He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Sr. Payne and Pauline Kauffeld Payne; his wife Betty Jo Payne; and his siblings, Joseph Payne, Aileen Noe, Joan Adkins, Nancy Crowe and Beverly Payne.

He is survived by: his children, Mark (Gwen), Michael Payne (Arlene) of Owensboro, Debbi Wagner (Rich) of Owensboro, Sharon Thompson (Ronnie) of Owensboro, Vickie Bowlds (Greg Cowan) of Owensboro and Susan Risse (Donnie) of Owensboro; his grandchildren, Christopher Payne (Lauren), Kelsey Leonard (Dustin), Allison Collins (Jeff), Lori Thompson, Amy Thompson, Stephani Thompson, Laci Millay (Craig), Megan Bartlett (Michael), Jill Chappell (Kyle), Casey Storm (Nathan), Amanda Taylor (Ricky), Dana Payne and Alex Bowlds (Katie); and his brothers, Herman Payne Jr., Carl Payne and Robert Payne. He is also survived by 28 great grandchildren and 3 more on the way; 9 step-grandchildren, 18 step great-grandchildren.
