He was predeceased by: his son John Michael Cunningham; his mother Susie Mae Cunningham; and his siblings, Joy Albee, Jo Ann Gunnin, Wayne Cunningham and Carey Cunningham.

He is survived by: his wife Bobbie (Gilbreath); his children, Lisa McFarland (Steve) and Paul Cunningham (Donna) of Owensboro; his daughter-in-law Tina Cunningham of Addison, Alabama; his grandchildren, Justin McFarland (Lori), Heather Morris (James), Drew Cunningham (Kaitlyn), Luke Cunningham (Ally Evans) of Owensboro, Lexie Cunningham (Brannon Powell) of Cullman and Lauryn Cunningham of Addison, Alabama.; his great grandchildren, Conner Jack of Owensboro, Thomas Lea of Owensboro, Knox James Morris of Owensboro, Elsie Grace of Owensboro, Deacon Lea McFarland of Owensboro and Claire Drew Cunningham of Owensboro; and his brother Herbert Cunningham (Bibby) of Oxford, Alabama. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
