Sara W Grundy Obituary
On March 17, 2018 at approximately 9:46 a.m. at her daughter's home, Sara Gray Winstead Grundy surrendered her final battle and peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Sara was the fourth child born to the late Lee Chester Dixon and Samuel P. Winstead on December 27, 1937. She was a life long member of Zion Baptist Church where she dedicated alot of her time teaching arts and crafts for the Vacation Bible School. She also attended Wednesday night Bible Study until her health began to decline. Sara enjoyed making treats for the young people for several of the local churches including Zion Baptist, Cedar Street Missionary Baptist, St. Paul AME and Fourth Street Baptist .
Sara is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Charles Albert Grundy, Sr.; one daughter, LuJean Karen Harris; one granddaughter, Deronza Riley; one brother, James Roy Winstead; and one niece, Gwenda L. Willingham.
Sara graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1955 from Western High School. After graduation she attended West Kentucky Community Technical College in Paducah.
Sara, was very active in the community serving and participating in several groups. She was a formal member of the Order of Eastern Stars Amaranth Chapter 46, the Socialites Women Club, secretary of the Black Charity Ball Committee, secretary of the Western High School Reunion Committee and treasurer/secretary of the Owensboro Pop Warner Football League Shivley Park.
Sara was employed at General Electric for approximately 10 years. She then went to work for Texas Gas Transmission Corporation. She started in the secretarial pool and ended as Supervisor of the Purchasing Department in 1992 after 24 years of service.
Sara was a loving, caring, insightful, encouraging and inspiring lady. She enjoyed crafts, computer games, puzzles and renaming her grandchildren.
Precious memories will remain in the hearts of her son, Charles A. (Felicia) Grundy, Jr.; daughters: LeRae Anita H. (Sidney) Jackson, Lloria June Harris, Vivian Deloris Riley and Vickie Charlene Riley; seven grandsons: Sidney T. Jackson, Jr., D. Mario (Andrea) Hall, Jr., Ryan L. (Bonnie) Jackson, Charles A. Grundy, III, Trenton F. Grundy, Nicholas G. Riley and Eddie S. Elliott; four granddaughters: Brandie Michelle Harris-Ezzard, Tarynn Rae Grundy, Shermona S. Riley and Vatoria S. Riley; seven great-grandsons: Ethan Michael Ezzard, Dominic Mario Hall, Elrico Edmond Ezzard, Nicholas K. Riley, Enahjai Elliott, Jkhydh Elliott and Jamal Dawson; seven great-granddaughters: Tyaira TayJong Jackson, Auriana Raelyn Hall, Harper Lauren Jackson, Elyse Sara Ezzard, Jaslyn Mumford, Aubree Hancock and Passion Elliott; four brothers: Walter T. (Juanita) Winstead, Wilbur H. (Sally) Winstead, Bruce P. Winstead and Lawrence E. Winstead; two sisters: Bettye J. Burns and Gloria W. Horne; a host of FAVORITE nephews, nieces, cousins and friends and her care-helper Phyllis Siddon.
