He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Childers and Elsie Childers; and his siblings, Carol Buchanan, Louise Shaw, Louis Hodges and Harold Hodges.

He is survived by: his wife Jossie Dismore Childers; his daughters, Melissa Vargason (Scott) and Tina Scott (Bobby); his grandchildren, Logan Vargason (Kelsey), Lindsey Vargason Duncan (Brice), Lathan Vargason, Justin Scott (Nikki), Preston Scott and Lakin Scott (Denzil); and his great grandchildren, Tayden, Raylan, Adyson, Jessalynn, Liam and Clover.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Pleasant Valley Community Church, 800 Pleasant Valley Road, Owensboro, KY 42303 or to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301.
