He was predeceased by: his parents, James "Red" Mercer and Laura Withers Mercer; his siblings, Mildred "Mickey" Story, Elizabeth "Libby" Martin, James "Jim" Mercer and Joe Mercer; his wife Abbie Catherine Hawes Mercer; and his daughter Laura Elizabeth Mercer.
He is survived by: his children, Benjamin Hawes Mercer (Carol) of Owensboro and Carolyn Adams (Roy) of Owensboro; and his grandchildren, Ben Mercer (Carla) of Owensboro, Sterett Mercer (Daniela Blettner) of Burnaby Mountain, British Columbia, Laura Alexander (Luke) of Lexington and Margaret Martin (Shane) of Owensboro. He is also survived by seven great-granddaughters; five great-grandsons; and four great-great-grandchildren.
