He was predeceased by: his parents, John A. Schartung, Sr. and Mary Cecelia Payne Schartung; his former wife Ann Jeanette Schartung; his wife Catherine Marie Schartung; and his daughters, Jackie Schartung and Jennifer Gibbs.
He is survived by: his children, Jessie Schartung of Owensboro, Jeff Schartung (Nikki) of Owensboro, Jason Schartung (Kristie) of Owensboro and John A. Schartung, III (Sondra) of Owensboro; his siblings, Joann Millay of Stanley, Barbara Hodskins of Fordsville, Patricia Lucht of Apapka, Florida, Tom Schartung of Bristol, TN, Bernard Schartung of Philpot, David Schartung of Ashburn and Robert Schartung of Owensboro; and his son-in-law Mike Gibbs of Owensboro. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, four great grandchildren.
