He was predeceased by: his wife Patsy "Pat" Jean Stout (Leet); his son George Stout; his grandson Joshua Pendleton; and his parents, James Stout Sr. and Thelma Mattingly Massie.
He is survived by: his children, Grace Stout Zuerner (Chuck) of Grand Blanc, Michigan and James Stout III (Lisa) of Macon, Georgia; his daughter-in-law Carla Stout of Gainesville, Georgia.; and his grandchildren, Jennifer Zuerner Becker, James Stout IV, Andrew Zuerner, Benjamin Stout, Mark Zuerner, Kimberly Stout Franklin and Elizabeth Zuerner Kushnereit. He is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren.
