He was predeceased by: his father John W. Coons; his wife Anita Potts Coons; his grandson Steven Coons; his siblings, William Coons, Donald Coons and Marie Bell; and his daughter-in-law Carol Coons.
He is survived by: his children, Ernest Coons, Jr. (Cathy), Randy Coons (Vicky), Scott Coons (Theresa), John Coons (Robin) and Janice Coons; and his grandchildren, Mike, Kim, Ernie III, Amy, Melissa, Randall Jr., Aaron, Matt and Josh. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
