He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Mayes and Dorothy Miller Mayes; and his brothers, Virgil, Roy and Larry Mayes.
He is survived by: his wife Doris Jennings Mayes; his son Byron Mayes (Melanie); his grandchildren, Colby Mayes (Madison Page), Carter Mayes (Jourdan Ballard) and Caleb Mayes; his sister Terri Durbin; and his aunt Ella Mae Brown. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
