She was predeceased by: her parents, Llyod Hamilton and Idella Gaines Hamilton; her daughter Kathy Ann Butler; and her siblings, Mary Aurelia McHenry, Patricia Ann Thomas, Mary Ruth Simmons, Frances Savellia Epison, Elizabeth Cordelia Johnson, Teresa V. Hill and Alfonse.

She is survived by: her husband James Chilton; her children, Waitman Butler, Aleta Butler, Dorothea Williams (Brutus) and Bernica Butler; and her brother James Burnell Hamilton. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.
