He was predeceased by: his parents, Londa Atherton and Truman Atherton; his sister Joy Thurman of Livermore; his wife Winnie Bell Atherton; and his granddaughter Melissa Belle Baber.
He is survived by: his son Bruce D. Atherton; his daughter-in-law Karen Atherton; his granddaughter Emma Lee Atherton Frey of Louisville; his daughter Sherry Baber; his son-in-law Gilbert Baber of Owensboro; and his grandson Matthew Atherton Baber of Owensboro.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be kindly expressed in memory of Mr. B.T. Atherton through contributions to The Melissa Belle Baber Memorial Fund, a charitable entity remembering Mr. Atherton's late grand-daughter to benefit educational and philanthropic initiatives, and may be made in person or by mail to the Owensboro Public Schools Foundation, 450 Griffith Avenue, Owensboro, Kentucky 42301.
