He was predeceased by: his wife Anne St. John Downey; his son-in-law Critt Murphy; and his brother Clyde Downey. He is survived by: his daughters, Rebecca A. Murphy of Mt. Sterling and Carolyn D. Smith (Rodney) of Lexington; and his nephew Everett "Frenchy" Downey.
