He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Kirk Gay and Florence Virginia Jessee Gay; and his siblings, Julia Ann "Judy" Florence (W. C.), Martha Frances "Sugar" Gill (Bill) and Robert Ellis "Sonny" Gay (Faye).
He is survived by: his wife Frankie Williamson Gay; his children, William R. Gay II and Deidre "DeeDee" Florence Gay Jewell of Lexington, KY; and his sister-in-law Loretta "Faye" Dailey Gay of Lexington, KY. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, friends, and caring neighbors.
