“So sorry to hear about JDs passing. Clarence and I have the fondest memories of him as neighbors for over 35 years. We remember his tour bus coming up Carolyn Lane early Sunday mornings coming home from doing what he did best, playing the best Blurgrass Misic of all times. We count it a pleasure to have known such a kind humble man as him. He will be missed. I can just imagine heaven with JD Crow there playing his bango for Jesus and all that has gone before him. “I am so sorry for your loss! I am one of J.D’s many cousins. Uncle Orval was the oldest of my grandparents 14 children. And I stayed with my mom (Gladys Mae Crowe) at uncle Orville and aunt Bessie’s a couple of times when my mom and I moved back to Kentucky from Iowa. I only got to see J.D. a couple of times when he would visit his parents before he would go back on tour with his band. I did get to talk to him at a Crowe family reunion a few years ago and he seemed at peace with the world.”

“Most condolences will be from fellow musicians. I am not that. I was just a college student that found J. D. in a bar called the New Limehouse in Lexington, circa 1964. Like so many others I was mesmerized by his God-given talent. He, and his band, soon moved to Martin's. I would go there every night to hear him pick. I heard him pick a million notes and not one was ever wrong - he was perfect. He will always be a hero of mine.”

“Though I knew he was ill, I'm still in shock at J. D.'s passing. I feel very fortunate to have known him. Even if he had never picked a banjo with his magic touch or sung some of the best baritone harmony ever in bluegrass (for which he was never properly acknowledged), J. D. was a rare human being. I've never known anyone in the "music business" as modest, balanced, or fair-minded as J. D. Crowe. Rest in peace, and condolences to the family.”
