He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Whitaker and Pearl Sharp Whitaker; his daughters, Debbie Preston and Frankie Reed; and his siblings, Jimmy Dale Whitaker, Victor Whitaker, Virgie Hager and Doris Adams.

He is survived by: his wife Pat; his children, Steven Whitaker, Virgil Shane Whitaker (Lisa), Jonathan Dale Whitaker and Honey Ray Hues; his sister Mary Lyle Cartwright; and his grandsons, Kaden Beck Whitaker and Tanner Ray Whitaker.
