He was predeceased by: his parents, Imogene Smith and Benjamin Franklin Tompkins, Sr.; and his brother Ray Tompkins. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Rice Tompkins; his children, Jeanna Wright (Scott) and Benjamin "Benji" Tompkins, III (Athena); his siblings, Brenda Hays (Dennis), Jenny Lovins (Jim), John Tompkins and Roger Tompkins; his granddaughters, Jalyn Richardson and Julia Tompkins; his pet Kalli; and his friend Jim Crow. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
