He was predeceased by: his father James Paschal Newton, Sr.; and his siblings, Gloria Clark, Mary W. Greenwell, Ronald and Marion Newton.

He is survived by: his wife Ann Clark Newton; his children, Tracy M. Robinson (Marlin) of Cox's Creek and Larry Newton (Gretchen) of New Haven; his grandchildren, Trenton Robinson, Austin Mattingly, Alex M. Robinson and Garrett Newton; his great grandchild June Robinson; and his siblings, Katie Ball (Evan) of Cox's Creek, Tammy Jackson (Michael) of New Haven and James P. Newton of Nelson County.
