He was predeceased by: his wife Myrtle Coleman Sims; and his children, Jan Byrd, James Cavitt and John Junior Sims. He is survived by: his children, Raymond Sims, III, Murray Hutchinson, Randal Hutchinson, Carol Martin, Debbie Maxwell, Frankie Sims, Murray Payne and Susie Payne.
