He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. Eura A. Mathis and Beulah Mathis (Gordon); his wife Geraldine Mathis (Portis); and his brother J. W. Mathis. He is survived by: his children, Verenda J. Mathis and Trevor J. Mathis (Lori) of Murray.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Joe's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
