He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Dotson and Virgie Looney Dotson; his wife Phyllis Austin Dotson; his sister Geraline Ratliff; and his grandchild Summer Ratliff.
He is survived by: his close friend Pamelia Kidd of Mouthcard, KY; his foster daughter Samantha Ratliff of Elkhorn City, KY; his siblings, Joyce Owens (Garland) of Vansant, VA and Sonnie Dotson (Gayle) of Vansant, VA; his close friend Christopher Meadows; his grandchildren, Hunter Wayne Ratliff, Kylie Ratliff and Kathryn Ratliff; and his pets, Lucy and Ginger. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Grundy, VA, Thursday, March 11, 2021 after 6:00 p. m. with evening service to be held at 7:00 p. m. In observance of COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing will be observed, and the wearing of masks is required for attendance.
